My Weber 500 carburettor cable has broken, what can cause this?

We have only ever seen broken throttle cables when the angle of the cable is greater than the cable can cope with (at either the throttle pedal or carb), or where the cable passes through the bulkhead if the cable has chafed.

When fitting a new throttle cable it is essential that you check the cable is not approaching the carburetter or throttle pedal link at an angle where the cable is stressed.

It is also important to check that these angles are correct when the throttle pedal is depressed and at the fully opened position.

Once in place you should also check that the cable is not chafing on any engine, chassis or body part.
